The Story of Stuff and other cool websites

April 25th, 2008

We’re starting a new feature here at the Fifty Studio blog. Website of the day. (That doesn’t mean we’ll put one up every day).

Story of Stuff with Anne Leonard
The design is simple and clean (nothing complicated), and her clever use of video and Flash animations is a mind bottling way for her to market her DVD.

CakePHP - Zip Code Distance Calculator

April 23rd, 2008

Got a new project where we need to calculate the distance between zip codes (find a retail location). I used an open-source script in a project a few years ago, but didn’t want to try to dig that up and create a CakePHP wrapper for it (I’m lazy apparently).

The work blog should contain…work?

March 31st, 2008

It seems kinda crazy to us, but apparently some people think that our work blog should do more than be random posts and us talking about how cool we are (17 out of 10) or listing new or finished projects.

Fine. Be that way.

So for your listening pleasure we’ve attached a CakePHP component we wrote for processing cards through Authorize.net. We call it ‘CakePHP Authorize.net Component.’

Download Here. Instructions are included. Batteries aren’t.

Fifty Studio Hard at Work

March 31st, 2008

You know how everyone makes fun of a bunch construction workers standing around watching only one guy doing the actual work? Well we had a construction moment here the other day…

Asia loves Fifty Studio?

March 26th, 2008

We got excited lately when the analytics on our Fifty Studio site exploded to almost a 1,000 hits a day. After digging around we found that most of that new traffic is coming from China, Japan, and Korea.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but we were surprised since Asia isn’t high on our list of target markets (or future growth markets). Apparently, some ‘Cool Flash’ award sites in the Far East picked up our site and it’s been making the rounds ever since.

Some screenshots are included below for your enjoyment.

The All-New Fezzari.com - Killer Mountain and Road Bikes

March 10th, 2008
We’ve been working long and hard (that’s what she said) to finish a new site for Fezzari, an industry leader in competition mountain bikes and road bikes. The site features Fezzari’s amazing bikes, the ability to purchase their products online, allows them to blog new events and news, upload new riding videos, maintenance videos and a lot more.
We’re also really proud of the recommended products section. Fezzari employees can recommend specific accessories with every bike. Customers can rest assured that the accessories recommended for the bike were chosen by someone even more fanatical about biking than they are. Plus, Fezzari offers a 23-point custom bike setup with EACH bike ordered.
Now if we can just find some time to ditch the office for the mountains. I think we’ve got our collective eyes on the Nebo Peak, although if Chris had his way we’d get the Widows Peak instead. Some of the wives just might not like us jumping off cliffs on a bike called the Widows Peak. If we were big into road biking (or triathlons), the T5 is one of the coolest bikes we’ve ever seen.
Anyway, check out Fezzari Mountain & Road Bikes and drop us a line with your thoughts in the comments.

APX and Fifty Studio Launch I am APX and APX Insider

January 28th, 2008

We are proud to announce the launch of our latest project. A little more than a month ago we discussed a new project with APX Alarm, one of the leading alarm sales companies in the nation, to develop a new sales recruiting site, I Am APX, and a revolutionary new site focusing on company news, APX Insider.

I Am APX

For the I Am APX site we created a fully flash site integrating lots of video in a variety of unique formats. It all started with some preliminary discussions with APX’s Marketing Director, Kevin Swiss, to develop a revolving video player to use on the home page. We also incorporated some chroma keyed video that comes to life right on your screen, and helps educate potential recruits on various positions at APX. We couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.

APX Insider

APX Insider may have been even more ambitious however. It marks our first full-blown news portal, and since there were so many special needs and features we developed a custom system to allow editors and reporters access to add their own news stories about APX and its employees. The results is a tight integration of custom news content and well-produced streaming video allowing APX employees the ability to stay up to date on what’s going on in their corporate culture. And while we’d love to give you a tour, the site is restricted to APX employees only.

Check out the site and drop a line in the comments with your thoughts.
